About the Network Cyber Security Engineer Role
The position is part of Verizon’s GN&T Network Security organization and the Network Security Defense team.
The selected candidate will work on protecting Verizon’s Core, Edge and Access networks and associated systems. The role involves real-time threat monitoring and detection, incident response, vulnerability management, security architecture and proactive threat hunting.

Job Responsibilities
The major responsibilities of the Network Cyber Security Engineer include:
- Identify technology gaps and help design, architect and implement appropriate security solutions.
- Develop and implement security solutions in highly scalable environments.
- Work with Operations, Engineering and Planning teams to integrate security into new deployments and major changes.
- Create security guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Lead network security incident response activities.
- Perform incident triage, containment, eradication and recovery.
- Develop and maintain incident response playbooks and runbooks.
- Support investigations involving ransomware, phishing, insider threats, DDoS and other security incidents.
- Perform root-cause analysis after security incidents.
- Prepare incident reports covering timelines, impact, evidence and remediation recommendations.
- Conduct proactive threat hunting across identity, endpoint and network telemetry.
- Create and tune security detections using SIEM technologies.
- Improve network visibility and security telemetry.
- Perform security control assessments.
- Identify and close security gaps discovered through incidents and threat hunting.
- Mentor junior engineers and support technical documentation.
- Communicate complex cybersecurity concepts to technical and non-technical teams.
Educational Qualification
Candidates should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or a related field, or
- Four or more years of relevant work experience.
Verizon also requires four or more years of relevant experience, which can be demonstrated through professional work, military experience or specialized training.
