About the Network Cyber Security Engineer Role

The position is part of Verizon’s GN&T Network Security organization and the Network Security Defense team.

Job Responsibilities

The major responsibilities of the Network Cyber Security Engineer include:

• Identify technology gaps and help design, architect and implement appropriate security solutions.
• Develop and implement security solutions in highly scalable environments.
• Work with Operations, Engineering and Planning teams to integrate security into new deployments and major changes.
• Create security guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Lead network security incident response activities.
• Perform incident triage, containment, eradication and recovery.
• Develop and maintain incident response playbooks and runbooks.
• Support investigations involving ransomware, phishing, insider threats, DDoS and other security incidents.
• Perform root-cause analysis after security incidents.
• Prepare incident reports covering timelines, impact, evidence and remediation recommendations.
• Conduct proactive threat hunting across identity, endpoint and network telemetry.
• Create and tune security detections using SIEM technologies.
• Improve network visibility and security telemetry.
• Perform security control assessments.
• Identify and close security gaps discovered through incidents and threat hunting.
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical documentation.
• Communicate complex cybersecurity concepts to technical and non-technical teams.

Educational Qualification

Candidates should have:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or a related field, or
• Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Verizon also requires four or more years of relevant experience, which can be demonstrated through professional work, military experience or specialized training.
